In this session, the authors discussed the two opposing views they have found in the Information Security literature and have confirmed through their research. On one side is a belief that in conjunction with a global infrastructure (i.e., the Internet), global solutions (i.e., the rules for privacy and personal data protection) should be used. On the other side is a belief that even in the globally connected world, it may be appropriate for each country to establish customized solutions that are in accordance with its economy, sociopolitical structure and culture. However, it seems that looking at privacy and security issues through such a binary lens may be counterproductive for opening a much-needed discourse on these important topics. |
