A data warehouse can only base on a consistent and current database. This database is extracted from operational transaction systems and aims to provide information to the management for decision support with respect to subject and time. The collected information of the data warehouse are used for status reports about critical factors for success as well as for the analysis of historical business data, which means time considerations are essential for purpose of use. A change of the dimension structures of the data warehouse can be modelled by commercial available systems but the original dimension structure will be lost. By that, fractions of the dimension structure appear because analyses with respect to different points of time cannot be compared without further effort. |
