Title
Comparative analysis of different retrieval methods for mapping grassland leaf area index using airborne imaging spectroscopy
Abstract
•The study provides drawbacks and advantages of physical and empirical models for LAI retrieval in heterogeneous grassland.•The results of the study demonstrate that a LUT-based RTM inversion yields higher accuracies for LAI estimation as compared to inversions based on predictive equations.•The accuracy and robustness of the statistical models strongly depends on the size of the calibration data.•The statistical methods yield accuracies similar to the LUT inversion if enough calibration samples are available.
